Deb Armstrong, 1984 Giant Slalom Olympic Gold Medalist, has faced a slew of challenges on the way to her success as a skier, many of which go beyond getting down the mountain faster than anyone else; she said she dealt with discrimination when she competed as a gay woman in the 1984 and 1988 Olympics. She's suffered traumatic brain injuries throughout her career. She's also a single mom. Now retired from professional skiing, however, she's taking on a new challenge: promoting diversity in the sport she loves.
